Known as the heart of the nation, east Jutland includes the region of Djursland, or the 'nose of Denmark - named due to its nose-like appearance on the map. This peninsular is well known for its numerous castles and manor houses as well as some of Denmark's most lush and attractive countryside. Djursland's northern coastline is characterised by good, child friendly beaches and the entire region boasts plenty of popular destinations that are ideal for a day trip. Natural attractions include dense forests, many of which have remained unchanged for centuries, and the historic Sostrup Monastery where the nuns will provide you with a guided tour. Other destinations include Meilgaard Castle, Stenvad Marshland Centre, Djurs Sommerland amusement park and the Kattegat Centre, which contains specimens of the local marine life sea - including sharks! The larger towns of Randers, Grena, Ebeltoft and arhus all possess their own distinctive atmosphere and attractions and are all well worth a visit.
